Steven Seagal LAWMAN: Review

Steven Seagal LAWMAN: Review

I just watched Steven Seagal’s reality cop show, LAWMAN on A&E. It was really good. Before I get into my thoughts, you know what’d be a cool concept? Lawman, but instead of Steven Seagal, get Dominic West of The Wire in there. I’d so watch that. Long as he wasn’t allowed to speak in his native British accent.

Anyways, I first have to say, Howard Stern must have been given a screener copy of the show, because a couple weeks ago, he have his two-cents about Lawman, on his show. And I have to basically co-sign everything Stern said. Shocker, I know. But first of all, the show is great. It has been a long time for me since “appointment television.” And this falls into that category. That means no watching it the next day online, but rather watching it live. The show kicks ass. Steven Seagal is his fat, washed-up actor self, except that, fat and washed-up actor self + ZEN = ELITE COPPER PHREAK! In other words, he’s actually bad ass. At least from an entertainment prospective.

As Howard Stern mentioned, he cannot RUN at all. So imagine an immobile cop. That’s Steven Segal. Basically, all of the “COPS” type action goes down, the suspects get apprehended, then finally Steven catches up to the action, and chimes in, as if he was the first responder. It’s all pretty funny.

I do have to give him credit though for his marksmanship. He’s a sharp shooter with the gun. That, you can’t take for granted. His “takedown” and “defense” demos to the newbie cops are interesting. And where it’s filmed, in Louisianna, is a shit hole, so that means it’s perfect for a reality show. The people of that city are a mess. I think Seagal however, even though he’s essentually a faux-cop, should have gotton in better shape for this, prior to filming. The guy looks huskey, and with that dyed hair and that widow’s peak, you’d think he ate all of the Count-Chocula. But let me just put it to you this way. This is 4/4 stars. Great TV. Check it, Wed’s at 10 PM EST on A&E. (The same network that was trying to nail down Artie Lange, but Artie passed on them).

I enjoyed some of Seagals movies from long ago. However, a “Lawman” in 2009??? It’s obvious he is gossly over weight and in this new show, you can tell the producers try not to show him in profile and mostly film him from the chest up… perhaps trying to hide his big gut. Maybe it’s part of his contract not to show his gut. I saw him on a “Late Night” talk show and he wore a black, thick leather coat and constantly kept his arms over his bloated stomach as if he could hide it. For goodness sake, if he’s a martial art expert, why can’t he lose the weight??? And those other cops on “Lawman” are so wimpy and all talk (including Seagal)like black street gang members. There’s nothing worse than white guys trying to talk like black guys… It’s an insult to African Americans!!! Seagal, lose the weight, talk like a white guy and lose the “show”… it’s stupid as you are not a real cop nor are you black!!! Give us a break!!!!
