My MediaTemple Web Hosting Nightmare: So Nightmarish (MEDIATEMPLE SUCKS!)

My MediaTemple Nightmare: So Nightmarish… (MediaTemple Sucks!)
Holy fu*k, two words. I have spent the last … God only knows 15 hours?
Trying to migrate web hosts. I’ve been using dreamhostPS(PrivateServers) and wasn’t super pleased, but I had nothing to base it on. I kept hearing about mediatemple being the “it” web host. The darling of the internets. So, I went ahead and signed up. For the $500/yr. virtual/dedicated server. I figured hell, this has to be way better than dreamhost, right?
Wrong.
Step one was moving my files over. It took several hours to transfer files over [to the MT server]. That was understandable. I was reading their HORRIBLY written “migration” guide, trying to figure out what the fuck I was doing. I admit now I am a n00b to this, but it’s not for not trying.
Next, was backing up the database (sql) file, then uploading it. But this involved some crazy shit, placing it in the proper folder and SSH-ing into the server and installing it/uploading it that way.
Then, of course there was the step of testing the site out via the IP address, before changing my DNS records to point to the new server.
Did all of that. Finally, it’s sorta working. Wordpress is loading. But my plugins I can tell are FUBAR. The memory default was limited, figured out how to fix that, I sent a couple support emails and got GENERIC bullshit responses which are along the lines of: Read Our Knowledge Base, buddy, good f-ing luck. Now, I was starting to appreciate Dreamhost’s great support. It’s speedier and it’s more TO YOUR SPECIFIC ISSUE – i.e. they try to help.
Next – wordpress was acting way funny, but I wasn’t laughing. When people left comments, I wouldn’t receive an email notification. That was screwed up.
My cache plugin wasn’t working, the file folders were in safe mode, so the plugins couldn’t create new folders on their own. Then, I started getting 500 errors cause the memory was being soaked up, because the plugins weren’t working, and all the while, the fucking support folks were giving me generic hog-wash. I am a pretty darn good troubleshooter, but after 15 hours and being swarmed by 4-5 issues all at once, with slow to respond support, and a website that is having an internal server error aka down, I had enough.
I pointed my domain DNS servers back towards my old webhost, and closed my media temple account. Now, I’ve had it for less than 24 hours, so I expect a refund, however they mentioned that I may have to pay them set-up costs. I can’t wait to find out how much that is… and why is there only an option to set the account close date for one month out? Wtf.
Anyways, here’s the deal. Dreamhost isn’t the best out there, but it sure as hell will work for you at the end of the day. (I use DH Private Servers). And it’s cheaper than the 500$ I was going to be shelling out at MediaTemple. So, yeah, stay away from those guys, because I am at the point of inability to wrap my mind around this. It was truly one of the worst experiences ever, with no pay off what so ever, aside from wasted time, energy, money, and agita. Fuck MediaTemple.
p.s.
I love how the last support ticket I sent them was a) hey, my site’s down I am getting 500 errors and rebooting the server doesn’t do anything. (which was something else I forgot to mention, rebooting did me no good, sigh), and then I mentioned about asking how I go about closing my account.
Well, they told me how to do the latter, while my site is still currently down. Shows how much they care, you’d think on my way out, they’d bother to check out my site and try to fix it… not. If you expect that kind of customer service you have to go with DreamHost.
p.p.s.
Fuck I am an idiot / my brain is so fried, that when I went to go change the DNS namesevers back to the old host, i used the wrong i/p, so just went back again and fixed that. Sigh…another few hours till my site’s back.
At least this was a good vent-read, right? (Update: the nameservers didn’t switch back until Noon on Saturday. That was an exciting wait).
p.p.p.s
And the insane part is despite all of this bullshit, and my site being down, and not actually posting any new posts [yest] ‘cept one, I still had a decent amount of hits yesterday. Sigh. it’s really a shame, ’cause it was supposed to be a celebration-bitches, and I was even considering giving a Googlewave invite away. Nevermind that shit. And if you’re the dude that left a comment about swapping Call of Duty friend codes, you gotta leave your comment again, because it got lost in the web host nightmarish shuffle.
And if mediatemple was smart, there’s this guy over at dreamhost named Jason Y, and he is the illest tech support guy on the planet, they’d do an Apple vs Google move, and try to steal him over to their company. Good game.
After not tweeting all day, because I was busy with this ole’ bullshit, this is going to be my only tweet of the day:
Umm, let me just say this: I must love putting myself through hell just so I can write about it, because I am the best when it comes to venting. sigh.
I take pride in what I do, obvs. sorta like Sasha Grey, and like her, today, I apparently took pride in proverbially taking it up the ass by the d-bags at MediaTemple.
FUCK!
Even the azns agree with me:

I am still trying to figure out how that fudgesicle, Perez Hilton managed to scale his blog. Oh he’s smart, he makes sure to blow the tech support guys, ahahhah. Kidding. And uh, I am loopy at this point. G’day & stay away from (MT).
