Wale – Attention Deficit ALBUM REVIEW

Wale – Attention Deficit – ALBUM REVIEW

Think I’m gonna have to write a Wale album review, 0-day style. Since we went to high school together and all…

$

Triumph
Album starts off strong with Triumph. Horns blaring. U-St [DC] style. Even though (as an aside), Wale doesn’t even live in DC anymore. He lives in Brooklyn, NY. Shh. Don’t tell anyone I told you! Between you and I, okay?

Mama Told Me
You know where there are songs where EM kills the beat… this is an example of the beat killing Wale. Roffle. I almost just wanna hear the instrumental, ’cause Wale’s wraps over this sound whiny.

Mirrors ft. Bun B
This was one of the first songs I heard off the album. And for good reason, it’s one of the best on the record. Bun B has been coming hard lately. And to think Bun B was just a corny Asher Roth fan-boy. In fact, Bun kills Wale on his own song. Mirror mirror on the wall… who’s the bama-est of them all?

Pretty Girls ft. Gucci Mane
Damn, Gucci went from smackin’ a hoe on stage, to on a record with Wale. This is the same ol’ joint Pretty Girls (same song) they just threw a Gucci feature on it. Coulda sorta done without this track cause at the end of the day, adding Gucci on it doesn’t make it a fresh track.

World Tour
I will say this. So far it’s way better than 50 Cent’s new album, though this song isn’t helping the cause. He took the verse off of the Tribe song an added the bitch Jazmine Sullivan who? to sing on it. Pretty sure that’s the poor man’s Alica Keys. Just cause you the janitorial version of keys, don’t mean ya any good! Hayooo! This song sucks. Next. Stealing a Tribe hook and rock infusing it = wack.

Let It Loose ft. Pharrell
I have heard this song before…off the DJ Benzi mixtape. LuckyIAm told me to be honest, so this song’s pretty hot, thanks to Mr. Williams. I.e. Wale doesn’t sink the track.

90210
I don’t wanna like this song, but I like it.

Shades ft. Chrisette Michelle
This is a song about Wale not being able to get with (land) any light skinned-ed sisters as a teenager. This is a big eff you to all of us, cause now he’s doing a song with Chrisette Michelle, who is as light as they come! I guess he wins! And see, I am progressive, I am not even looking at this song as about shade, as I see this as an anthem for the fat sistas out there.

Chillin’ ft. Lady Gaga
Ya know how the last track was for fat chicks? This is for teh gays. I’d be shocked if Lady Gaga and Wale even did this in the same studio together. Prolly some phoned in shit. Gay people chillin’. Where’s the Mo-Co (Montgomery County, MD) chilling part of Wale’s life? Faking on his past in the suburbs, kid. Quince Orchard HS represent with Roland B. and co. what what.

TV In The Radio ft. K’Naan
This song was confusing to me – cause isn’t TV on the Radio a band? Oh, wait, it’s TV “IN” the radio.. that makes a lot more sense (sarcasm). This is a song you listen to and the first two times you listen, it’s hot but I promise you by the third time it’s mad annoying. I’ve heard this song five times and I’ve been sick of it two times ago. Yawn. K’Naan needs to stick with South Park pirate episode cameos… though (no homo in advance), (true story) – I have shook K’Naan’s hand once, and despite what the stereotypes are out there about pirate’s hands, he has REALLY SMOOTH HANDS. I think he lotions up. Nullus.

Contemplate
I guess this is Wale’s “serious” song… ooo, I am shaking in my boots! This song isn’t working for me. It’s like going to the kid in the corner, drawing with crayons, to help you draw conclusions about life. Fuck that. Oh, two minutes in he crow-bars in a bunch of celebrity names into the song for no real good reason, I guess so it resonates better with us?

Diary ft. Marsha Ambrosius
It’s shitty songs like this one and Contemplate that makes me miss Mark Ronson’s production. Wale’s rap + “heavy” music just doesn’t work! It’s like if the Degrassi soundtrack had emo stylings. This is one of those catch and release songs but rather, record and shelf. If I wasn’t reviewing it, I would have hit next two minutes ago.

Beautiful Bliss ft. J.Cole & Melanie Ambrosius
This, like Mirrors, had leaked on blogs already. It’s decent. I imagine it will grow on me -nullus-, Empire State of Mind v.5 beta-male style.

Prescription
I think Wale’s rapping/flow has officially given me a headache. Prescribe me, already.

[BEST TRACKS: Mirrors, Let It Loose, 90210, Beautiful Bliss]

[CONCLUSION: If I hadn't spent the last couple of days listening to "50 Cent's - Before I Self Destruct," I would have rated Wale's freshman effort lower, however 50 messed up my ear-pallet. In comparison MOST things out there are 10x better, (eg. that new Lil' Wayne mixtape). There are some albums I like to review, because they're really shitty, and some because they're really good. This falls somewhere in between, and this is coming from yours truly, the Russian judge of this:]

BOOTIES (STARS): (_*_) (_*_) (_*_) (_o_) (_o_) [3/5]

  2. WhatTheyKnowAboutWaleNo Gravatar says:

haha this nigash a hater man..lol dude wale 5/5 the fuck outta here with ur rating.

  3. frankNo Gravatar says:

Haha! ok i just might… but why are your opinions such against this CD?

IMO… Diary, and Prescriptions both are real deep, shades too. Triumpth, mamma told me, and mirrors are also great songs!

Chillen, Pretty Girls, Let it Loose are questionable and should have been replaced with songs like: Ice and Rain, Family Affair, & Letter. Anyways. like i said 5/5 deff. 4/5 at worse.

  4. tmsNo Gravatar says:

He says he went to high school with him. Apparently Wale fucked his girl or something. You only see this kinda hate from people losing at Madden.

  5. thoreauly77No Gravatar says:

havent listened to the record, but based upon your idiotic review (sucking another bloggers dick and style, etc, but without humor), i will have to listen. after all, your writing is and reviews are shit. keep up the interviews though! (i have no idea how you get the good ones)

  6. donNo Gravatar says:

i think frank should be the reviewer cause he obviously knows what hes talking bout…lol dam you a hater my nigga ha anyways 4.5 outta 5 cause pretty girls and chillen should have been replaced with ice and rain, fly away, letters or bittersweet.

  7. GzNo Gravatar says:

yo really hatin on wale .. lol

  8. [...] me just say, Wale must have boyfriends (ALLEGEDLY), because when I posted a review for his new album, his bfs came out of the woodwork at the defense of their man. I thought I was angry. Those dudes [...]

  9. ToddNo Gravatar says:

eyo, i been down wit wale since Paint A Picture, and being from PG county I’d consider myself a big fan. However; shabooty is right. This album wasn’t really well put together. For the release to be pushed back as much as it was, I was anticipating a much better effort. I will say though, the production on this joint is BANANAS! I just wished he would have went in harder than he did.

    • KenNo Gravatar says:

You are fucken retarded. Really….. You are fucken dumb. 1st of all, the only so called “hipster” would be wale. And 2ndly dont fucken say hipster. Music already has too many genres and you make up your own. 3rdly, 50 cents album does suck. 4thly, lil waynes “No Ceilings” kills both albums and shabooty is right.

  10. MarcNo Gravatar says:

Wow, you rated Wale’s new album a 3, dissed 50′s new album, and labeled a Lil’ Wayne mixtape as better material?
The hipster generation never cease to amaze me

  11. ATINo Gravatar says:

Byron Crawford called, he wants you to stop making an mockery of his writing style.

  12. JoeNo Gravatar says:

Ur a faggot. Every song on this album that is bangin u said was bad. You have NO IDEA WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT. Wale is literally too good of a rapper for his own good. His lyrics are so packed with metaphors, allegories, and allusions (not that you know what any other those things are) that no one could ever pick up on them all in one listen. I’ll admit I was disappointed with this album because I was expecting revolutionary and Wale was only able to come up with excellent. Everyone wants to talk about how they are “saving hip hop” and ending the ringtone rap era. Wale is actually doing it. His shit is deep, as well as good enough for the DJ booth.

    • waleNo Gravatar says:

  14. AJNo Gravatar says:

I let the Slaughterhouse diss slide by. I know this dude aint give a fuck but I’m straight up done with this site… almost as bad as bossip.com. Reply to my post if you want, I wont be on here again.

    • The REAL WaleNo Gravatar says:

Shabooty is wack and im inspired by people like that who hate on my music. Go cop ATTENTION DEFICIT and i promise that you guys will like what i put out there

      • shabootyNo Gravatar says:

fake wale. the real wale doesn’t go to seton hall university. thanks though.

  15. KenNo Gravatar says:

Wale is a swagger jacker too. You didnt note that. And i would give this cd a 3/5 also.
Wale deserves to die for his jay-z like actions towards charles hamilton. First he releases his CD on charles’ birthday. Then he samples Rihanna. And if you listen, he cops ideas from charles. Not exactly, but the kind of ideas that if you listen to charles, its the ideas you get from hearing his shit.

Wale disappoints. And he got a fucken XL rating from XXL. Look at this review and the rolling stone one for a more accurate review.

  16. pakmantruNo Gravatar says:

@ ken ur right ale is a gimmick, he dosent run hip hop cause he already ran out of shit to rap about……. he rap about girls and shoes thats not hip hop thats childish, we out here in Landover for taking risk everyday and dog acting like we living in beverly hills….. all i gotta say is “Where’s the lunchtable”? if this aint lunchtime punchline then what is…. wale u aight for the time being, dont ride jay dick to hard tho cause he do niggaz like puffy too dawg (beans, cam, jaz-o,the whole roc) just to name a few be ur own person slim

  17. Rod-ManNo Gravatar says:

Did you listen to the hook on Shades? They address that she’s light skinned and he’s dark skinned and it talks about how it shouldn’t matter. “shade doesn’t matter, heart makes the lover.”

    @Pakmantru
Rapping about shoes? Surely you’re not talking about Nike Boots. Aside from the fact that almost none of the lyrics are about shoes, he says “this ain’t a shoe song, this is a true song” several times throughout.

  18. Matthew MitchellNo Gravatar says:

IM frm dc and i like the album creative he got a great mind…….
ps i hope one day i get discovered i can be the next big thing from dc
YALL TRU HIP HOP HEADS CHECK IT OUT AND TELL ME WHAT U THINK
    http://www.myspace.com/mitchfromdc

  19. Hooza BuckinNo Gravatar says:

What? Bun B is an “Asher Roth Fan Boy”? If you dont know what your talking about, then stfu. Its obvious you know nothing about hip hop so you shouldnt even be reviewing this joint. Bun B has been rapping for years longer then Asher Roth, and has absolutely nothing in common with him. Do your homework before you write a “review” and for the record this joint wasnt half as bad as you made it out to be

  20. CeeeNo Gravatar says:

This album is mediocre at best. Lyrics are pretty good, production is horrible. I feel so sorry for what’s happened to hip-hop and for you kids for not knowing any better. This is music for people without any soul.

  21. KillacamNo Gravatar says:

This is proof for there are dumb people out there when you call diary a bad song, and mamma told me.
