Dominic West Update: Arresting role for Wire star Dominic West
Check out this interview with The Wire’s Dominic West. West and the interviewer discuss his new found attention, the cult-status of The Wire, his current project: doing a play in the UK – in the nude (no homo), news of David Simon creating a new show around Bunk and Lester – set in New Orleans, with a possibility of West directing and doing cameos! Wow.
Sitting opposite Dominic West is a disconcerting experience. I feel, ludicrously, as though I’ve had an intense and meaningful experience with this man that lasted a significant amount of time.
West, of course, was disreputable Baltimore cop Jimmy McNulty in The Wire, the US series that rewrote television drama and created legions of devoted fans.
He smiles when I explain the dilemma – he concedes he’s loving ‘every second’ of the attention he’s now belatedly receiving.
‘I was going backwards and forwards from Baltimore, missing my daughter, missing my home and no one was watching. So it was a real reward for all that when it went big. And I got lots of street cred that I really don’t deserve.’
