Royce Da 5′9″ Only Sells 4,600 In 1st Week

Wow, I was going to guess that Royce was going to push a lot more copies of his new record, Street Hop, than a measly 4,600 copies. Sure it was more than M.O.P. but that’s about half as many copies as what you see from many indie hip-hop acts these days. Debuting at 111# is a flop, right? And I am not the only one that thinks so…:

Ouch. Maybe there’s a SlaughterHouse curse? But like I said, I am friends with a lot of indie rappers, many of whom who sell around 10k a new record, and even with that, walk away disappointed, so I can only imagine how Royce is feeling today.

As far as what I thought on the album? I thought it was a good album, with a couple stand-out songs, but admittedly after the initial listens, I haven’t found myself going back and listening to it again.

As an aside, Drake’s EP (So Far So Gone) is outselling Kid Cudi’s LP… that’s laughable. 197,300 units (Drake) to Cudi’s 183,300 units – during the same period of time. I think Olivia Munn is working with the wrong guy (Kid Cudi)… or rather, Kid Cudi needs to stop wasting time in the studio with Olivia Munn making goofy records, when he should be in the studio trying to emulate Drake, whom is setting the standard amongst the beta-male class of rappers. Wale, I hope is taking notes, but knowing his Quince Orchard HS education, those notes are spotty at best.
