LOS ANGELES — A reliable source has told me that Warner Brothers (Warner Music Group), has dropped LA rapper MURS from the label. MURS’ manager has not replied for comment. It was explained as a “downsizing” to me. The huge MTV marketing campaign was at the cornerstone of the MURS for President album promotional storm. A promotional storm that must have cost Warner Bros. money that was not recouped. While I do not know MURS’ future, the likely homes would be either Rhymesayers (which ironically has a Warner Bros. distro deal) with his Felt cohort Slug, or back to El-P’s label, Definitive Jux. Knowing one thing though from my past interview with MURS’, if it was up to him, he’d stay at a major label, as opposed to an indie situation. Looks like it’s going to be a 360 deal at a major or back with the making underground real shit (MURS).

UPDATE: MURS has notified me that he was not dropped, but rather he asked to be released. It was not an instance of “downsizing.” His departure is the result of many differences in opinion.
