Dizzee Rascal Tops U.K. Singles Chart, Sells 115,000 Copies of ‘Bonkers’

True story: I am proud to say when I interviewed Dizzee Rascal, he only threatened to snuff me once. Nullus. He reminded me that probably no one in my life knew I was on his tour bus at that moment in time, and that so the he could technically have me offed, and no one would know. He was kidding of course, unless I don’t understand British humor? (Or maybe an immediate death threat in a British accent, isn’t really that threatening? Roffle!).
Rap artists celebrated a stellar sales week on Sunday’s new U.K. sales charts, with Dizzee Rascal and Armand Van Helden’s “Bonkers” (Dirtee Stank) new at the top of the singles survey, and Eminem’s “Relapse” (Interscope/Universal) powering straight to No. 1 on the album bestsellers.
“Bonkers,” by the London rapper and featuring New York DJ Van Helden, is Rascal’s second consecutive U.K. chart-topper, after “Dance Wiv Me,” his collaboration with Calvin Harris, hit the summit last summer. The new hit pushes Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” (Interscope/Universal) down to No. 2 after its own debut at the peak last week. (via)
