Wii Sports 2 (Resort) Coming, as Wii Sports Is Best Selling Game Ever Surpassing Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo must be feeling very happy right now as Wii Sports has new become the best selling video game ever, surpassing Super Mario Bros. Over 40 million units of Wii Sports have now been sold; this figure includes bundles which has helped it become the best selling game.

Wii Sports has sold 40.52 million copies, but it is expected to reach at least 50 million. The closest rival is Super Mario Bros on the SNES, that shifted 40.42 copies, third is Pokémon Red / Green / Blue, GameBoy with sales of 31.38.

When you view the top 10 bestselling video games, they are all for the Nintendo Wii, SNES, DS and GameBoy. The only non-Nintendo games are GTA: San Andreas, which stands at number 15. This does prove one thing, when it comes to video games, Nintendo are king.

You know where there is success, there are sequels. Hence Wii Sports Resort… Check out pics of the forth coming game here (Spring ’09). Plus, apparently the priced at 50$ sequel will come with a new sensory piece of hardware. Neat.

    I see this getting hyped up a lot.. but I don’t know how bundled games can be counted as best-sellers. People aren’t buying the game. Is Minesweeper hailed as a best-selling PC game?

    The best selling LEGIT game ever is Super Mario 3. Wii Sports + SMB1 are bundled so they’re out. I don’t know if you want to count the Pokemon either, that’s kind of a shady one too since the different ‘colors’ are added up and some people bought multiple colors.

    So let’s recognize the real champ, Super Mario 3 :)
