Shabooty Interview Series: David Anderson

Every wonder who the second subject of the “Shabooty Interview” was? I looked to David Anderson, my “blog father,” – as he helped me grandfather in my blog. Aside from being a blogging guru, he’s an interesting guy – a SoCal to Costa Rica transplant, and In Search of Utopia (that’s the name of his blog). He also happens to be the uncle to actor Anthony Anderson, who I loved in all of those DMX flicks, before DMX was getting arrested every week. Here is the long awaited David Anderson Int, of the “Shabooty Interview Series.” 1/5/2005.

Shabooty: Hello David, so what is your response when I call you the black Tommy Lee of the blogging/sex-tape world?
David Anderson (ISOU): LOL. I would say you must have read some of the chapters of my book that I have not yet put on my blog.

Have you had a flood (no pun intended) of google users searching for tsunami related stuff?
Yes I have. People are starving for info. 260,000 hits in the last week.

Congrats on the 1mil (that is one million for those of you reading at home) hits milestone! How long did it take?
Well I started the first ISOU in October of 2003, it was a very popular blog, but I don’t have the stats for it. So I don’t know when ISOU hit 1,000,000. The latest version of ISOU was started in April of last year, I think.

What blog site refers you the most hits?
Probably Wizbang.

How long have you been doing this and what got you into blogging?
I started my first blog three years ago, but did not keep it up. It is still out there though. Blogger shit never dies, Bro. I started blogging because I wanted a record of what I was doing with my life at the time. I did not start it for an audience.

Editor’s Note: Me neither, originally, I started a blog as an extension of all things, “my AIM profile”- space on there was very limited for cool links and cool things, so I extended it out to a blog that I could post all of the great things I was coming across and paste in funny chat logs. Now it is what it is today!

What single website or blog has inspired you the most?
None really. A lot of the big Bloggers are assholes. One guy, A Brother, told me he would not give me a link because I was too small. This was when I first got started. Now Brotherman’s blog is dwarfed by mine. I am like hundreds of spaces ahead of him in the TLB ecosystem, and last time I looked, homey got like 1/5 of my daily traffic. I said then I would always try to help new Bloggers out, and I have adopted a bunch of them. So fuck him, and some of the others who were assholes to me.
But, I used to read Nitecrawler faithfully. He wrote a post called, “The Fuck You Awards,” which to me is seminal blogging at it’s best. I like a bunch of Blogs, but the ones who have given me the most love are the Commissar, Diggers Realm, Wizbang and Rogue Angel. Oliver Willis and Billmon were the first big blogs to hook me up with a link, and I consider them along with the Commissar to be my Blog Daddies.

Can you give my blog an “endorsement”?
2005: Yeah, “Shabooty rocks in ways that I can’t, ’cause I need to at least TRY to be somewhat politically correct. (wink).
UPDATED 2006: Yeah, “Shabooty is an unrepentant playuh, who writes what he wants, is completely politically incorrect, but doesn’t give a shit. He often shocks me, but has fun with his blog, a lesson many of us could learn from!”

Tell me about your book coming out…
32 Days Bro. 32 Days in the life of a Playuh, Philosopher, Lover, Daddy, Mac Daddy and Genius of international acclaim. I have posted a few chapters here. But I have not even gotten to the hard core shit yet. My goal, much as I love my Brother, is to sell 10 times the number of books Tony Pierce has sold. Because quite frankly, I think my life has been hella more interesting.

Why 32 days? Why did you choose that number?
You will have to read the book to find out that one my man. :D

Have you decided on a book cover yet?
Yeah, ALL black with White letters.

What authors inspired you to write your own book?
None really. But I got the idea and inspiration from Tony.

The beginning of your book reminds me of the Brazilian movie, City of God have you seen it? Could you see a movie being made from your book?
Hell Yeah. But like I said, you ain’t seen nothing yet. What you have read so far is my young years, my life, like a fine wine, has gotten hella better with age. Some of the best stuff is yet to come.

I don’t have a digital camera..would you say it’s an essential tool for bloggers as a way to have original content? Editor’s Note: Yes, I have a digital camera, now.
No, but it doesn’t hurt. Especially with a playuh like you. I still want to see a picture of your lady. (wink).

Do you think your blog would stand out more if you were still in So-Cal, or as it is now, as a Costa-Rican cultured blog?
No, I think being in Costa Rica adds a certain Flavah to ISOU, you feel me. I mean, lots of people come to my blog just to see the Costa Rican Honey’s and I don’t disappoint them, do I. And You have not even seen my private stash! Oh wait, you have! Laughing my ass off!

SOPHIE’S CHOICE (via howardstern.com)

Robin read a story about a real life “Sophie’s Choice” that took place during the Tsunami. A woman was holding on to her two kids and a pole to keep from being swept away, but eventually realized she was going to have let one of the kids go or all three of them would die. Her kids were something like two and five and Howard said he thought she’d let the youngest one go since she didn’t know him as well. But the woman decided to let the older kid go, figuring if he somehow survived the Tsunami he’d have a better chance of taking care of himself. She handed off her 2-year-old to another woman and let her 5-year-old be swept out to sea. Fortunately the 5-year-old survived, but Howard figures he’ll spend the rest of his life in therapy over this. Howard wondered if E! Director Scott DePace would have made the same decision since he has two kids around the same age. Scott said he’d let the older kid go too.

What would you do?
I would not let either of them go. We die we die together, and I don’t want my younger kid growing up feeling like his brother was sacrificed for him to live.

Thanks for your time!
